Valentine’s Day Heart Mosaic Activity

In preparation for Valentine’s Day, we had our students making create heart-shaped mosaics for their parents and teachers by using pieces of construction paper and other materials. As usual, we did not give the students too many instructions when it came to creating the actual mosaic. We simply taught them that mosaics were created when pieces of stained glass were combined and showed them examples of mosaics from Catholic churches. Afterward we distributed construction paper, foam sheets, tissue papers, glue sticks and scissors.

As usual, my students delivered and created an amazing array of Valentine’s Day paper heart mosaics:

My 1st grader decided to make half the heart using red tissue paper and the other half with different color tissue paper. Definitely a unique mosaic!

We had leftover Christmas tissue paper and one of the students decided to reuse it for their Valentine’s Day heart. Way to save paper and still create a unique design
Our Valentine's Day hearts took a cultural spin as a student decided to decorate their heart with the colors of the Mexican flag.

This student decided to create a half-blue and half-red heart using tissue paper. To further accentuate the red and blue of the heart, he also added a blue and red background using colored pencil.
